How to grow Onion 'Redman'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Redman is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will tend to survive through freezing conditions. Planting Redman in loamy, clay and sandy soil with a ph of between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal for as it does best in weakly acidic soil to neutral soil.

Growing Redman from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 1.95 inches (5.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.98 inches (2.5 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 13°C / 55°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Redman about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Redman

As Redman is very hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
