How to grow Beetroot 'Forono'

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Forono is thought of as half hardy, so remember to watch your frost dates and ensure you have this plant protected when the temperature dips. Ensure your soil is loamy and has a ph of between 6.5 and 7.0 as Beetroot is a weakly acidic soil to neutral soil loving plant.

Growing Forono from seed

Ensure a distance of 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) between seeds when sowing - look to sow at a depth of approximately 0.74 inches (1.9 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 4°C / 39°F to ensure good germination.

Forono is an Italian heirloom, ancestor of most modern cylindircal beets.
Characteristics: half long, cylindrical shaped with dark-red interior and almost no zoning; excellent for canning and freezing. A cylindrical-shaped, easy-peel, sweet beet.

Forono folklore & trivia

Forono is the ancestor used to breed just about all of the more modern Italian hybrid cylindrical beets.
Used to produce the variety named Formonova, in July 1963.
Formonova was hybridized by Breeder: L.Daehnfeldt, Odense, Denmark.
