Meconopsis are fabled for their challenging requirements and it is definitely a case for the right plant in the right place.
If you have moist but not waterlogged ground and dappled shade and cool conditions it would be worth a try. They must not get too hot in the summer or too wet in the winter.
If you manage to nurse them over their first year or so, the position must also be not too exposed to wind as the flower spike may blow over.
They prefer acid to neutral conditions
Meconopsis germinate well from fresh seed sown in late summer.
Press the seed lightly into the surface of moist seed compost mixed with vermiculite and place under shaded glass.
As they germinate and become large enough to handle pot on individually. Grow on under glass for the first winter, and plant out in the flowering position after the frost has past in the spring

The position is important. It must be dappled sun lightly shaded and the ground but neither dry out in the summer or become waterlogged in the winter. It must be cool and not exposed to gusting wind.
A degree of protection during the winter can be provided by a flower pot with the bottom cut out, secure with a cane
Meconopsis is hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.Harvest when the seed pod turns brown. Shake into a paper bag and sow at once
