Likes plenty of water but also likes good drainage; does not want to stand in water. Water at ground level rather than misting the entire plant often to help avoid mildew. Also, fertilize or compost well early in the year (not right at flowering time, as this can cause them to finish flowering too quickly.)

Prune to shape or to remove dead wood.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Mrs. N. Thompson is a hardy plant.
