Clematis Bagatelle Etymology

Named after a castle in the Bois de Bologne outside Paris.

It was named ‘Dorothy Walton’ by Jim Fisk after the customers of his who found a specimen in her new garden. It was later realised it was ‘Bagatelle’ but the name has continued as a synonym.

Bagatelle folklore & trivia

‘Drossy Wollton’ was recorded in Japan in 1986 and thought to be a miss-spelling of ‘Dorothy Walton’ but there is uncertainty as the description and photograph differed.
