How to grow Spinach 'New Zealand'

  • Full Sun

  • Low

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that New Zealand is thought of as half hardy, so although it can survive a small mild cold snap, it is wise to ensure that this plant is protected from frost damage. Planting New Zealand in loamy soil with a ph of between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal for as it does best in weakly acidic soil to neutral soil.

Growing New Zealand from seed

Sow 0.49 inches (1.25 cm) deep with a guideline distance of 3.12 inches (8.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 8°C / 46°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing New Zealand about 60 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting New Zealand

As New Zealand is half hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out (around 0°C / 32°F as a guideline) - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
