How to grow Japanese anemone 'Whirlwind'

  • Dappled Sun

  • High

Moderate grower. Full shade to full sun. Needs wet or constantly moist soil. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. For a neat appearance, remove old foliage before new leaves emerge. Divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring. 1

Try to plant in a location that enjoys dappled sun and remember to water often. Whirlwind is generally regarded as a hardy plant, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea).
