Potato 'Accent'

Solanum tuberosum

How to grow Potato 'Accent'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

If the shoots appear and there is still likely to be a frost at night, cover them with earth Continue to bank up the potatoes as the stems appear to keep the developing tubers from becoming green

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Accent is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Ideally plant in loamy and clay soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 5.0 and 6.0 as Accent likes to be in moderately acidic soil to weakly acidic soil.

Growing Accent from seed

Plant commercially prepared tubers after chitting in the spring. Does not grow true from seed

Sow 5.85 inches (15.0 cm) deep with a guideline distance of 11.7 inches (30.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 8°C / 46°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Accent about 14 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Accent

Plant the tubers directly. Potatoes establish more quickly after chitting. Chitting involves setting out the tubers in good light in a cool room and allow ing the ‘eyes’ to start growing

Ensure that temperatures are mild (minimum night temperatures should be around 10°C / 50°F) and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Accent is a tender plant.

Harvesting Accent

Harvest as the flowers fade in early to mid summer

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by early summer.
