How to grow Broad bean 'Coles prolific'

Full Sun position recommended.

In cold climates (with frost) can be sown through Autumn to Late Winter.
Temperate climates – Late Autumn and Winter.
In Semi tropical – sow late Autumn and early Winter.

Plants may need support – can grow to 1 metre.

Low temperatures in Spring can result in some bud drop, this is normal and the plants go on to produce additional flowers.

Keep in mind when planting that Coles prolific is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea).

Growing Coles prolific from seed

Will germinate in soil temperatures as low as 2 degrees Celsius.
Water before sowing, and then not until after germination to avoid beans rotting.

Aim to sow 1.56 inches (4.0 cm) deep and try to ensure a gap of at least 5.85 inches (15.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 2°C / 36°F to ensure good germination.

As Coles prolific is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
