How to grow Ixia 'Turquoise Ixia'

  • Partial Sun

  • Low

After planting, drench thoroughly every 10 days. Stalk if necessary. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers in favor of organic used sparingly. When leaves begin to dry, stop watering; when completely dry store in cool, dry but sunny spot. Lift every second year to clean and remove any unhealthy corms.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that Turquoise Ixia is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures.

Growing Turquoise Ixia from seed

Sow in trays or pots in spring for summer growing/flowering, or in fall for winter growing with some flowering in spring and early summer. Sow in 2 parts playground sand/1 part compost, leaf mold or peat, & barely cover with sand. Do not add manure. For summer growing cover with plastic bag and place in fridge for 3 weeks, then let germinate at about 65 deg. in shady location, keeping moist. Winter is same, but keep at about 50 deg. days and 72 deg. nights.

Transplanting Turquoise Ixia

Best left in trays or beds for 2 seasons before planting out. Plant in area that is dry in winter or grow in pots or containers, half sand, half soil, well-draining. They prefer at least 1/2 day sun. Soak well after planting.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Turquoise Ixia is a hardy plant.
