How to grow Winter squash 'Hubbard'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Position in a full sun location and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Hubbard is thought of as tender, so it is really important to ensure that the outside temperature is well above freezing before planting or moving outdoors. Hubbard requires a soil ph of 6.1 - 7.5 meaning it does best in weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Hubbard from seed

Look to ensure a distance 2.28 feet (70.0 cm) between seeds when sowing - bury at a depth of at least 1.17 inches (3.0 cm) deep. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 21°C / 70°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Hubbard

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Hubbard is a tender plant.
