Bean 'Soleil'

Phaseolus vulgaris

How to grow Bean 'Soleil'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Fertilization is modest. Excess nitrogen causes poor pod set and delays maturity.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Soleil is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. A soil ph of between 6.0 and 6.8 is ideal for Soleil as it does best in weakly acidic soil.

Growing Soleil from seed

Recommend sowing outdoors in warm soil (+60 F). Use row crop cover b/c birds like them.

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.9 inches (10.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.99 inches (2.54 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 18°C / 64°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Soleil about 14 days after your last frost date.

Transplanting Soleil

Mature ahead of pole beans. Continuous harvest: plant them 2 or 3 times, about 20 days apart.

As Soleil is tender, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
