How to grow Cabbage 'Wintergreen'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Cabbages like solid ground. Do not plant into freshly dug ground. Dig the plot in advance. Do not grow on the same spot two years in a row.1

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Wintergreen is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will tend to survive through freezing conditions. A soil ph of between 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal for Wintergreen as it does best in weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Wintergreen from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.12 inches (8.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.47 inches (1.2 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 4°C / 39°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Wintergreen about 45 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Wintergreen

As Wintergreen is very hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
