Tolerates lows to 10 degrees F, but will try to grow new foliage throughout winter as temperatures rise, then die back again with a deep, heavy freeze. Best type for the deep south or in coastal regions with mild winters, foliage can stay most of the winter.

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that Metaphor is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea). A soil ph of between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal for Metaphor as it does best in weakly acidic soil - neutral soil.
