How to grow Sunflower 'Dwarf'

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water often. Keep in mind when planting that Dwarf is thought of as half hardy, so it will need cloching or fleece protection when the temperature dips. Ensure your soil is loamy and clay and has a ph of between 5.7 and 8.1 as Sunflower is a weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil loving plant.

Growing Dwarf from seed

Look to ensure a distance 4.68 inches (12.0 cm) between seeds when sowing - bury at a depth of at least 0.49 inches (1.25 cm) deep. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 13°C / 55°F to ensure good germination.

Harvesting Dwarf

Mature sunflowers may be harvested for flower arrangements. Use a garden knife instead of scissors for cutting the stems of flowers. The scissors will pinch the stem, reducing the ability of the stem to take in water. Place only the stem of sunflowers in the water. Leaves below the water line should be trimmed off.2
