Harvesting Breadnut

The fruit is ready when the skin turns yellowish, it can be picked young and the “nuts” will be tender where the nut skins can be also eaten. It can be left on the tree until it turns brown and falls to the ground. At this stage the fruits (nuts) will be harder and encased in a hard shell. They are then boiled in salt water and eaten similarly to chestnuts.
