Water the plant often to keep the soil moist.. Fertilize your containerized plant once a month when actively growing with 18-6-12 or 15-5-30. Dissolve 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon in a gallon of water. Leach the pot once a month by running water thoroughly in order to minimize the amount of salts from the fertilizer. This procedure should be repeated three or four times.1

Keep in mind when planting that Tricolor is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside.
