How to grow Heart leaf philodendron

  • Dappled Sun

  • Medium

This is a very easy houseplant – or outdoor grower in higher zones (9+). It will climb if given opportunity and leaves will get much larger in these circumstances. Otherwise, leaves will stay small along a creeping or hanging vine.

If grown up or allowed to climb a wall or tree the leaves keep getting bigger.

When growing in a container indoors, pinch your plant to allow it to branch; otherwise it will grow with a single long stem. Always pinch above a leaf node. A new stem will grow from that node.

Feed monthly spring through fall with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys dappled sun / indoor lighting and remember to water moderately. Use Zone 9 - Zone 12 as your guideline for the appropriate climate for this plant. Keep in mind when planting that Heart leaf philodendron is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside.
