How to grow Devil's Trumpet

Datura metel

Growing Devil's trumpet from seed

Benefits from cold stratification.

Soil temperature should be kept higher than 22°C / 72°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Devil's trumpet

It’s best to try to keep the rootball and ALL existing soil within the rootball intact when transplanting this plant. Datura Metel don’t like to be transplanted, and will most likely droop when first transplanted and this may last a few days. Keep well watered during this period.

Harvesting Devil's trumpet

Make sure to keep the thornapple on the plant until it dries before attempting to harvest the seeds. When it appears to be dried out, pull the fruit off gently or you may lose some of the seeds.

Seed Saving Devil's trumpet

Make sure you put the seeds in a paper bag, or wait until THOROUGHLY dried before storing them in anything plastic. I made this mistake and discovered that mold grows fiercely on the seeds if they aren’t completely dried before storing.
