How to grow Tomato 'Verna Orange'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Avoid overhead watering to reduce disease. Provide adequate water and fertiliser. Best pruned back to two branches (leaders), and staked – cuttings may be replanted to produce new plants. Note: climbing variety.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Verna Orange is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Ideally plant in loamy soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 5.5 and 7.5 as Verna Orange likes to be in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Verna Orange from seed

Start seeds indoors six weeks before last frost date.

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 1.95 feet (60.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.2 inches (0.5 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 16°C / 61°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Verna Orange about 42 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Verna Orange

Sow after frost – can sow indoors and transplant out after 5 weeks taking care not to damage roots.

Plant to the first set of true leaves to promote strong root growth.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Verna Orange is a tender plant.
