How to grow Watermelon 'Golden Honey'

  • Full Sun

Golden Honey is generally regarded as a tender plant, so remember to ensure that temperatures are mild before moving outdoors. Golden Honey needs a soil ph of 6.5 to 7.5 (weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil).

Growing Golden Honey from seed

Thrives in summer heat. Sow the seed one-half inch deep outdoors after frost-season is over and soil is warm. Soil should be rich and well-amended with compost or manure.

Aim to sow 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) deep and try to ensure a gap of at least 8.12 feet (2.50 metres). For optimal germination, soil temperature should be a minimum of 16°C / 61°F.

Transplanting Golden Honey

Golden Honey is tender, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.

Harvesting Golden Honey

Watermelon is probably ripe when the light patch on the underside has changed to a pale yellow, and the tendril immediately opposite the stem from the fruit has withered.

This variety tends to mature and be ready for harvest in late summer.
