How to grow Clematis 'Bernadine'

Prune every year back to the first two active buds in very very early spring. Feed with blood fish and bone as the plant sets off into spring growth

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Bernadine is generally regarded as a hardy plant, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures.

Growing Bernadine from seed

Not normally grown from seed, clematis can be raised from cuttings but this cultivar’s propagation is prohibited without a licence

Transplanting Bernadine

Select a sunny spot in moist but not waterlogged soil. Soak the plant in a bucket of water and prepare a hole twice the size of the plant pot and deep enough to take the root ball 8 cm below the surface. Back fill adding blood fish and bone and firm in. Remove the bamboo cane. and either prune if it is very very early spring back to the first two active buds or attache the plant to the support.
Mulch the roots with gravel or bark chips.
Can be grown in a pot

Bernadine is hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.
