How to grow Sitka Spruce

Picea sitchensis

Growing Sitka Spruce from seed

Soak in water for 24 hours and refrigerate for 15-30 days in plastic bag low moisture with lid open slightly. Afterwards leave in room temp 68-70 deg F inside the baggy with moist cloth until seedlings start to open. Good trick is to put the seedlings on top of the moist paper-towel in direct sunlight, sun helps heat up the black seedlings thus enabling faster germination. Plant by slightly pressing with your finger tip onto the seeds and lightly sprinkle dirt over the top but not to much! Water your seeds daily only till top is moist. Recommend to crush calcium pill into your water, Sitka Spruce grows better with calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in its soil.
