Potato Linda Etymology

Developed by Friedrich Böhm in 1964 from a Clivia and Hansa potato. In 1974, she was listed as an official German potato.

Linda folklore & trivia

The Linda disappeared from the market in 2004 when the patent on the potato expired and was to be replaced for another variety, the ‘Belana’. This meant that the Linda could not be sold legally anymore which upset many Germans, especially the organic farmers. As the media caught on to the story and people started enthusiastically campaigning for their potato, the Linda was luckily approved again in 2005. Today the Linda is a loved potato in Germany that is grown by many organic farmers.
