How to grow Michelia

Keep in mind when planting that Michelia is thought of as tender, so it is really important to plant out well after your last frost date.

Growing Michelia from seed

Germination is generally poor.
Treat seed with fungicide/insecticide before sowing.
Sow in shade, but remove from shade once germination occurs.
Minimum temperature both day and need should be 20 deg C or above.
A heat pad may increase the rate of germination.

Soil temperature should be kept higher than 20°C / 68°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Michelia

As Michelia is tender, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
