Fertilize once when planting, and then leave it alone – it will flower and be more cold resistant in lower fertility conditions. Prune hard in spring to encourage a bushy habit, and prune back by about 1/3 in winter + mulch heavily. And of course if you regularly prune dying flowers you’ll encourage more flowering.

Keep in mind when planting that Rich Ruby is thought of as half hardy, so it will need protecting in periods of cold weather.
