How to grow Garden Cosmos 'Hinomaru'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Hinomaru is thought of as tender, so it is really important to plant out well after your last frost date. A soil ph of between 6.6 and 7.8 is ideal for Hinomaru as it does best in weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Hinomaru from seed

Sow at a depth of approx. 0.25 inches (0.64 cm) and aim for a distance of at least 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) between Garden Cosmos plants. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 20°C / 68°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Hinomaru about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Hinomaru

As Hinomaru is tender, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
