How to grow Sweet corn 'Hawaiian'

  • Full Sun

  • High

Hawaiian likes a position of full sun and remember to water often. Keep in mind when planting that Hawaiian is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Ensure your soil is loamy and clay and has a ph of between 6.5 and 7.5 as Sweet corn is a weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil loving plant.

Growing Hawaiian from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 7.8 inches (20.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 1.17 inches (3.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 21°C / 70°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Hawaiian about 14 days after your last frost date.

Transplanting Hawaiian

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Hawaiian is a tender plant.
