Black cohosh Etymology

A. racemosa had previously been placed in the genus Cimicifuga; however, morphological and gene phylogeny analyses indicated the need for reclassification of Cimicifuga species, including black cohosh, into the genus Actaea.1

Racemosa refers to the flowers being produced in racemes.2

Common name of bugbane refers to it’s insect repelent properties.2
