How to grow Bearded iris 'Actress'

Remove faded flowerheads after flowering.

Add blood fish and bone around the rhizomesas growth starts in the spring. Crouded clumps may benifet from dividing. Old rhizomes will make the clump grow in a ring and new growth can be encouraged at this stage by lifting and dividing. Remove old rhizomes and preserve as many roots on the divided sections as possible. Replant in new area with the addition of some blood fish and bone. Divide rhizomes after flowering, as the rest of the summer can be used to reestablish the plant

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Actress is generally regarded as a hardy plant, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Actress needs a soil ph of 6.1 to 7.8 (weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil).

Growing Actress from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 1.19 inches (3.05 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.99 inches (2.55 cm).

Transplanting Actress

This iris likes an open sunny spot in well drained soil. Plant with the rhizome level with the soil, as this needs to be exposed to the sun. The sunshine will ripen it and encourage good flowering the following year.

Water well after planting and if it is windy or dry

Actress is hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.
