Nasturtiums grow well in partial shade and need moist soil although not wet. The midday sun is not for them so provide shelter from it.
Try to plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Vesuvius is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea). Ideally plant in loamy, sandy and clay soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.1 and 7.8 as Vesuvius likes to be in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.By our calculations, you should look at sowing Vesuvius about 14 days before your last frost date.
