How to grow Broccoli 'Bordeaux'

  • Partial Sun

  • Medium

Water regulary and feed as heads develop.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Bordeaux is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Bordeaux needs a loamy and sandy soil with a ph of 6.2 to 7.2 (weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil).

Growing Bordeaux from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 5.85 inches (15.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.51 inches (1.3 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 10°C / 50°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Bordeaux about 42 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Bordeaux

Transplant when seedlings have 5-6 leaves, spacing 75cm (30") each way.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Bordeaux is a tender plant.
