How to grow Bunching onion 'Freddy'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Harvest the bunches when they reach spring onion size.

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Freddy is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Ideally plant in loamy and sandy soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.0 and 7.0 as Freddy likes to be in weakly acidic soil to neutral soil.

Growing Freddy from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.9 inches (10.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.23 inches (0.6 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 13°C / 55°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Freddy about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Freddy

If module planted – transplant one module (should be 4 – 5 baby plants) every 10 cm or so.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Freddy is a hardy plant.
