How to grow Bunching onion 'Evergreen Hardy'

Bunching onions can be direct seeded or started as seedlings. Direct sow as soon as soil can be worked. Sow seeds 18-1/4" in 2" bands with rows 12-18" apart. Trim tops of seedlings when they reach 5" to thicken stem, trim to 1". Harvest at desirable size. Make successive planting for season long harvest and/or leave in the garden to over winter for early spring scallions. -From back of High Mowing Seeds packet

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Evergreen Hardy is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will typically do well in a variety of different extremes of cold temperature. Ideally plant in loamy and sandy soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.0 and 7.0 as Evergreen Hardy likes to be in weakly acidic soil to neutral soil.

Growing Evergreen Hardy from seed

Sow at a depth of approx. 0.25 inches (0.64 cm) and aim for a distance of at least 0.99 inches (2.54 cm) between Bunching onion plants. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 13°C / 55°F to ensure good germination.
