A created heirloom. Developed and stabilized by Keith Mueller, Gary’O Sena is "a pink-purple line derived from the ‘Brandywine’ X ‘Cherokee Purple’ cross.
Named for Keith Mueller’s paternal grandmother. Her name by her account was spelled Gary’O not O’Sena. This is also the way her surviving children remember it being spelled. Her father, who was Irish, named her and there was a story behind it but neither Keith, nor do surviving family members, recall the story.
Keith Mueller of Kansas City, Missouri developed this variety from a cross between Cherokee Purple and Brandywine. First introduced in the Seed Savers Exchange in 2007.
