A full sun position will ensure your plant thrives and remember to water often. Keep in mind when planting that Galia is thought of as tender, so it is imperative to wait until temperatures are mild before planting out of doors. Galia needs a potting mix and loamy soil with a ph of 6.1 to 7.5 (weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil).

Growing Galia from seed

Sow in late winter or early spring in good well draining seed compost. Keep at 24C. to aid germination

Ensure a distance of 1.88 feet (58.0 cm) between seeds when sowing - look to sow at a depth of approximately 0.39 inches (1.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 21°C / 70°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Galia about 14 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Galia

Transplant when large enough to handle into 7cm pots and then into 13cm pots before planting out to fruit in a greenhouse border cold frame or cloach when all risk of frost has past.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Galia is a tender plant.

Harvesting Galia

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by late summer.
