Watermelon 'Moon & Stars'

Keep in mind when planting that Moon & Stars is thought of as tender, so remember to ensure that temperatures are mild before moving outdoors. Try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.5 and 7.5 as Moon & Stars likes to be in weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil.

Can be direct sewn for long-season regions, or started indoors 4-weeks before last frost date for shorter growing season areas.

Aim to sow 0.39 inches (1.0 cm) deep and try to ensure a gap of at least 8.12 feet (2.50 metres). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 16°C / 61°F to ensure good germination.

Start indoors four weeks before last frost. Plant 6-8 seeds per hill, thinning to 3-4 plants. Hills should be 12-inches in diameter.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Moon & Stars is a tender plant.

Ripe fruit will weigh 30-40 pounds, and be oval in shape. The outer rind is green with yellow spots.

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by late autumn.
