Sugar Baby likes a position of full sun and remember to water often. Keep in mind when planting that Sugar Baby is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.5 and 6.5 as Sugar Baby likes to be in weakly acidic soil.

Growing Sugar Baby from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 8.12 feet (2.50 metres) and sow at a depth of around 0.49 inches (1.25 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 23°C / 73°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Sugar Baby

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Sugar Baby is a tender plant.

Harvesting Sugar Baby

Harvest when the tendril closest to the fruit stem is dry and brown and the underside of the fruit has changed colour; then store for a week before cutting. 1

The species name vulgaris is from the Latin vulgus (“the multitude, the masses”) +‎ -āris, and means “common”, “usual”, or “commonly known” 1.
