How to grow Black Raspberry 'Cumberland'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Like most bramble/cane berries, this one will spread in all but the most inhospitable climates. Grow it in a container and/or trellis it. Wicked sharp thorns on stems and backs of leaves. Handle with heavy gloves.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Cumberland is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures.

Growing Cumberland from seed

Try to ensure a gap of at least 2.96 feet (91.0 cm) when sowing to prevent overcrowding your seedlings.

Transplanting Cumberland

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Cumberland is a hardy plant.

Harvesting Cumberland

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by late summer.
