Geraniums can be grown in containers and in hanging baskets. They are also suitable to grow on the border and around roses. Most geraniums can be pruned low so they renew. The exception is geranium macrorrhaizum, which is easily deadheaded and needs no shearing. Most geraniums can be divided every 3 – 5 years which will give them a longer life span. To keep them from spreading they can be divided more frequently.
