How to grow Chives 'Wilau'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Wilau is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Planting Wilau in sandy, clay and peat-rich soil with a ph of between 5.2 and 8.3 is ideal for as it does best in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Wilau from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.51 inches (1.3 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 15°C / 59°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Wilau about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Wilau

As Wilau is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.

Harvesting Wilau

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by mid summer.
