How to grow Chives 'Polyphant'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Polyphant is thought of as hardy, so Polyphant will tend to go dormant or grow slowly over the winter months. Polyphant requires a sandy, clay and peat-rich soil with a ph of 5.2 - 8.3 - it grows best in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Polyphant from seed

Look to ensure a distance 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) between seeds when sowing - bury at a depth of at least 0.51 inches (1.3 cm) deep. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 15°C / 59°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Polyphant about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Polyphant

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Polyphant is a hardy plant.

Harvesting Polyphant

Expect harvests to start to occur in mid summer.
