Loganberry 'Thornless'

Rubus x loganobaccus

How to grow Loganberry 'Thornless'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Keep well mulched. Prune carefully. Tie in last seasons branches to horizontal wires. Collect new seasons growth on vertical post. At the end of the fruiting season, cut out old stems and replace with new shoots onto horizontal wires

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Thornless is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea).

Growing Thornless from seed

Not usually grown from seed, but suckers easily and roots from stems that can be pinned in the ground

Transplanting Thornless

Plant out against a system of posts and horizontal wires. Mulch with well rottued manure or blood fish and bone

As Thornless is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.

Harvesting Thornless

Harvest individual berries when ripe, freezes well

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by late summer.
