How to grow Arugula

Eruca selvatica

Cut and use greens (black peppery taste) to prevent it from bolting. Can handle hot weather.

Sow arugula on the ground 1/8 in. deep and aprox. 1 in. apart and thin to 6 inches. Water regularly. Sow every 20 to 30 days from early spring to fall for additional crops.1

Growing Arugula from seed

Sow direct, and thinly as soon as all danger of frost has past.
Repeat sow, every three weeks, to ensure a continuous crop

Transplanting Arugula

Plant in the early spring and again in fall, direct from seed.

Arugula is very hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.

Harvesting Arugula

Harvest the tender leaves for salads. They add a great pungent peppery taste. The flowers may also be eaten, which have a slightly sweet taste before the peppery taste kicks on.

Seed Saving Arugula

Let the pods dry to a deep cream color and harvest the spikes by hand or put them in a bag and shake it. Then discard the shells.
