The best time to plant gladiolus is in the spring. On zones 7 through 11 the corms can be left in the ground over the winter months. In zones colder than zone 7 the corms have to be lifted, in the fall, and stored properly.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. D-day is generally regarded as a half hardy plant, so remember to protect this plant from frosts and low temperatures. D-day needs a soil ph of 6.7 to 7.0 (weakly acidic soil - neutral soil).

Growing D-day from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 7.02 inches (18.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 4.29 inches (11.0 cm).

Transplanting D-day

D-day is half hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside - as a guideline, the minimum temperature outside should be approximately 2°C / 36°F.
