How to grow Chard 'gator'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that gator is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will typically do well in a variety of different extremes of cold temperature. Planting gator in loamy and clay soil with a ph of between 6.1 and 7.5 is ideal for as it does best in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing gator from seed

Sow at a depth of approx. 0.39 inches (1.0 cm) and aim for a distance of at least 0.39 inches (1.0 cm) between Chard plants. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 10°C / 50°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting gator

As gator is very hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
