once established, it doesn’t require much water. once or twice a week is enough.
When pruning adenium obesum care should be taken not to come in contact with the sap as it is poisonous especially to children and pets. Pruning can be done when the plant is actively growing in Spring and Summer.1
When propagating from cuttings get six inch cuttings from the mother plant and let them dry for two days. Place the cuttings in a container with water and soil and keep moist but not water logged. Mist the cuttings daily with a spray bottle. At the end of 2 – 6 weeks the cuttings should start rooting. Transfer to individual containers when foliage growth starts. If growing in the ground plant adeniums on a raised location with sloping sides. Adeniums are better grown in containers.
Soak seed for two hours in tepid water then plant in a coarse mix of compost ad grit ot perlite. Keep moist but not too wet. Seeds need light for germination
Soil temperature should be kept higher than 25°C / 77°F to ensure good germination.Pot on into well drained gritty compost, allow plant to dry a little between waterings
Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Desert rose is a tender plant. When you see the plant bears seed pod, cover the pod with mesh bag and wait until the pod matures. The pod will break open itself (this take quite some time)
The seeds need to be planted no latter than 15 days after collection.
These estimates for how long Desert rose takes to sprout, grow and harvest are from real observations from real gardeners, right around the world.
