Plantain Folklore & Trivia

Green plantains are used in a diversity of delicious dishes such as “tostones” and “mofongo”. Ripe plantains are used as a side dish and also to make “piononos” and “pastelon”. Both of these dishes are delicious and contain a form of picadillo for stuffing. Pastelon is made in layers(similar to a lasagna) and can contain green beans and a few different kinds of cheese.

The leaves of the plantain are used as wraps for a delicious dish called “Pasteles” . “Pasteles” accompanied with white rice are a complete meal and is usually served around the Holiday Season.
