Plum 'Czar'

Prunus domestica

How to grow Plum 'Czar'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Continue to water well during dry and windy weather, while the tree completely establishes its self. This may extra care may need to continue into the trees second season.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Czar is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea).

Growing Czar from seed

Not usually grown from seed, but is grafted onto a root stock that will control the height of the mature tree

Transplanting Czar

Choose a site that will accomodate the mature tree in height and spread. Dig a hole that will contain the roots well spread out and a sturdy stake. A bear rooted tree will establish more quickly than a container grown plant. Back fill with good earth with the addition of blood fish and bone to help growth. Water well

As Czar is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.

Harvesting Czar

Czar will ripen on the tree, harvest when the fruit will easily lift off the stalk.
Czar ripens early in the season and is good straight from the tree or used in cooking

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by late summer.
