How to grow Blackcurrant 'Connan'

Fruits on last years wood. Prune by removing crossing branches and about a third of old wood in the dormant period

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Connan is thought of as hardy, so Connan will tend to go dormant or grow slowly over the winter months.

Bot usually grown from seed, and this plant is restricted. Normally black currants strike from semi ripe stem cuttings

Transplanting Connan

Sunny to part sunny spot with moisture retentive soil. Plant about 5 cm deeper than in the pot to promote new shoots from the base

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Connan is a hardy plant.

Harvesting Connan

Cut the whole string of fruit with scissors when ripe

Expect harvests to start to occur in mid summer.
